When we met with NIAD's Director of Exhibitions and Marketing, Timothy Buckwalter, last August he mentioned a concept for weekly online exhibitions that seemed almost too ambitious. This project, the Affordable Art Online Exhibition Series (AAOE) is in its 21st week and has become an impressive collection of experiences with the vast archive of NIAD works from the perspective of a dynamic selection of creative professionals (check it out on their blog).
Every week, NIAD invites a Bay Area artist or other creative professional to curate an exhibition from NIAD’s digital archive, which is then made available for purchase online. Each show has a theme and statement from the organizer about their choices.
In addition to being a great exhibition series and compelling series of essays, this is also one of several innovative ideas that NIAD utilizes to rethink "integration" to find new, progressive, and more effective solutions. Our full overview of NIAD is available in our program directory.
